On Thursday October 15, 2015 at 4:30pm, Lisa Lowe, author of The Intimacies of Four Continents will discuss her book and be in conversation with GC professors Kandice Chuh, Susan Buck-Morss and Eric Lott. The Intimacies of Four Continents is an interdisciplinary work that examines the relationships between Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, in the eighteenth and nineteen centeries, specifically as they relate to connections between colonialism, slavery, imperial trade and Western notions of liberalism.

Dr. Lisa Lowe teaches in the departments of English and American Studies at Tufts University. She is a member of the Consortium for Studies in Race, Colonialism and Diaspora and has authored many books on orientalism, immigration and globalization, including Critical Terrains: French and British Orientalism (1991), The Politics of Culture in the Shadow of Capital (1997) and most recently, The Initimacies of Four Continents (2015), among others.
